The team are dually qualified in medicine and law. This means that their approach to cases is informed by an understanding of legal issues. This background is also of value during case conferences, meetings of experts and court appearances

 


 

Dr Affifa Farrukh:

Dr-FarrukhAffifa was awarded a national talent scholarship and went to Medical College at the age of 15 and qualified when she was 20. She trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology in the UK and is on the specialist register for both disciplines. She works part-time as a consultant in both the NHS and the private sector.

She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in both Glasgow and Ireland. She is also a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology. She was awarded a Masters in Pain Management with distinction and is a trained acupuncturist.

She was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn and is also qualified as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She also has an interest in discrimination in the delivery of care and was awarded an LLM with distinction in relation to this work.

 


 

John Mayberry:

Prof-MayberryJohn was appointed as a consultant physician in Leicester in 1989, where he subsequently became Professor of Gastroenterology. He is on the specialist register for general medicine and gastroenterology in both the UK and the Republic of Ireland. He is also on the specialist register for public health in the UK.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London, Glasgow and Ireland. He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and the European Board of Gastroenterology. He has an interest in Medical Education in which he holds an MSc. He is also one of very few physicians to have been awarded a Doctor of Science degree for his research work.

He was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn and also qualified as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. His LLM was awarded for Legal Aspects of Medical Practice
